Prescribed burning followed by indaziflam enhances downy brome (<i>Bromus tectorum</i>) control

چکیده
Abstract Downy brome ( Bromus tectorum L.) is a highly invasive winter annual grass that can fill open niches in native plant communities. Prescribed burning often used to control B. and be combined with herbicide treatments extend the duration of promote community. Several herbicides have been evaluated conjunction for control, although indaziflam has not. In September 2017, two –infested sites were burned Colorado foothill shrublands. March 2018, was applied alone or combination glyphosate, rimsulfuron, imazapic. These compared imazapic plus glyphosate as standard. All made within non-burned areas crossed-nested design. cover desirable community responses 1 2 yr after treatment (YAT). areas, all reduced control. contrast, reductions from did not persist first year. Most post-burn further decreased treatments. The most effective (indaziflam 44 73 g ai ha −1 + 123 ae ) provided similar levels (<1% at YAT), without burning. Desirable cover, richness, diversity negatively impacted by Plant species richness increased Site when followed This study indicates using enhanced burning, combinations rimsulfuron provide wider application window glyphosate.

An assessment of environmental conditions for control of downy brome by Pseudomonas fluorescens D7
Purpose: We evaluated the conditions that favoured Pseudomonas fluorescens strain D7 (P.f. D7) growth and inhibition of downy brome. Design/methodology/approach: Tn5 mutagenesis and a competitive assay were used to isolate mutants of P.f. D7. Isolates were screened for polysaccharide production and toxin response. Seven mutants were tested under varying pH, temperature and water potential and c...

متن کاملAllelopathic Potential of Various Plant Species on Downy Brome: Implications for Weed Control in Wheat Production
Allelopathy, the ability of plants to inhibit germination of other plants, is an untapped resource for weed control in crops that could revolutionize organic crop production. The main objective of the study was to evaluate allelopathic potential of various plant species on downy brome (Bromus tectorum L.), a major pest of wheat (Triticum aestivum L.). To screen for potential allelopathy, plants...
متن کاملPrescribed Mosaic Burning in California Chaparral
In fire-prone ecosystems, knowledge of previous fire history and long-term fire regimes is essential to the establishment of ecologically sound fire management. In the Californian chaparral, fire regimes are determined by the rate of fuel accumulation and previous fire history. The evolution of patch mosaics created by fire is a non-random and self-organizing process because the occurrence of f...
